Tax

An effective tax strategy is critical to the success any client’s business and personal ventures. Our tax group is accomplished in formulating such a strategy, due in great measure to the close working relationship between this group and our other practice groups. The standard procedure at our Firm is that a tax lawyer always is consulted on all transactional matters.

Our tax group provides clients with expert advice on the tax implications of their business operations. Our tax attorneys provide our public and private company clients with guidance in a broad range of transactions and tax planning matters, including:

  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Debt restructurings
  • Designing sophisticated financial products

We provide tax advice to a wide variety of clients, ranging from high net worth individuals to large corporations. Among others, we represent:

  • Real estate developers, operators, syndicators and investors
  • Financially troubled real estate entities
  • Foreign entities and individuals wishing to invest or conduct business in the United States
  • United States entities and individuals planning to transact business abroad
  • Private investment and hedge funds

With the tax landscape undergoing frequent transformation, it is vital that clients obtain legal counsel from a firm that is capable of furnishing them with the latest tax information and fashioning financial strategies that reflect the most current tax-saving ideas. We offer our clients this capability and know that they will benefit greatly from its application.

Tax Litigation

Our tax controversy and dispute lawyers handle a broad range of federal, state and local tax related matters, including negotiating the scope of tax audits, formulating responses to information requests from the Internal Revenue Service and state and local tax authorities, responding to/contesting summonses and obtaining private letter rulings. We have represented publicly and privately owned entities, high net worth individuals and trusts and estates seeking to resolve a wide range of sophisticated tax disputes at the administrative level and have represented clients before the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims and in other federal and state tax tribunals. We regularly work with the lawyers in the Firm’s other practice groups to make certain that the tax aspects of any litigation or contested issue are fully considered.
