Alexis Cirel Co-Authors Article In Prestigious Fertility and Sterility Journal of Medicine
12/12/2024Alexis Cirel, a founding partner and chair of the Fertility Law Group, has been published in the Fertility and Sterility Journal of Medicine together with coauthor and colleague, Brian Levine, M.D., M.S., of the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine New York, and
others.
The featured article, “Should physicians be facilitating gestational carrier arrangements in the absence of medical indication?,” presents the most prominent arguments supporting patient autonomy to engage in gestational surrogacy arrangements, even when “medical necessity” is not a consideration.
It is accompanied by a companion article that takes the other side of the argument.
Ms. Cirel said, “The topic is a hot and controversial one among professionals in our respective fields, and for good reason: it calls upon professionals to consider a unique confluence of bioethical, medical, legal, and social issues. In the absence of legislation, there is no ‘right’ answer to complex and delicate issues such as ‘social surrogacy’; (as it called by some), but we have laid out a balanced and reasoned assessment for consideration.”
