Fertility Law Group Partners with A Damn Good Life to Help Breast Cancer Survivors Seeking to Build Their Families Through Surrogacy
02/27/2023Warshaw Burstein, LLP today announced that its Fertility Law Group is partnering with new non-profit, A Damn Good Life, to help women who have suffered from breast cancer become parents through surrogacy.
A Damn Good Life is a 501 (c)(3) with a mission of granting a total surrogacy journey to young breast cancer survivors who do not have the financial resources to realize the dream of having a family after their diagnosis has made it impossible. It operates as a project of Players Philanthropy Fund, a Maryland charitable trust. A Damn Good Life recently announced that it is taking grant applications.
Alexis Cirel, Esq., the Founding Partner and Chair of the Fertility Law Group, will help grant awardees navigate the legal components of a surrogacy journey and assist them in locating appropriate legal counsel in applicable jurisdictions. Brownstone Surrogacy, a full-service and licensed surrogacy agency located in New York City, has also partnered with the non-profit and will work with awardees to build their families.
Ms. Cirel, who is herself a parent through surrogacy, said, “A Damn Good Life is helping a very important group of women and families. The out-of-pocket costs of assisted reproduction of any kind can be shocking, and in many cases, prohibitive. Those whose path to parenthood depends on surrogacy should not have to give up their dream of having a child because their bank accounts or access to insurance coverage fall short. A Damn Good Life is offering hope to women who have already been through the trauma of breast cancer and want to build a family through surrogacy, as I did. We are delighted to have an opportunity to help these women as they embark on, what we trust will be, a truly magical journey.”
